Icade's strategy is a response to the global challenge of limiting global warming to 2°C or even 1.5°C, as recommended by scientific experts and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. The real estate sector consumes a lot of energy and emits massive amounts of CO2, responsible for a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in France, and therefore has a major role to play in achieving this objective.
Icade is committed to environmental transition, and has made the fight against climate change and the preservation of natural resources its top priorities. The Group has made new commitments in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. To achieve them, it is backed by a 2023 - 2026 investment plan worth 180 million euros, and is also implementing a responsible carbon offsetting policy. This environmental strategy is supported by our shareholders.
Olivier Wigniolle, CEO of Icade, emphasizes that the idea is first and foremost to transform the assets, since "heavy reconstruction reduces emissions by 35% compared with demolition-re-construction".
As part of this approach, Icade has created Afterwork, a redevelopment program for tertiary assets. It also involves the use of low-carbon materials, with the creation of a specialized development subsidiary, Urbain des Bois, which is developing a project for an ecological district in Bordeaux, and the Cycle Up platform, which brings together those who store recycled materials and those who build them.
