The Gare du Sud development project is located in the heart of the city of Nice, in a historically popular neighbourhood. It includes an existing building which was a former train station and whose metal frame is listed as one of France’s historic monuments.
This project has revitalised the city through its mix of uses and architectural integration of structures both old and new. The train shed built in 1892—and later operated by the Chemins de Fer de Provence rail company—and the façade of the former Riviera hotel stand side by side with modern architecture.
Covering 25,500 sq.m of floor area, including 12,250 sq.m for residential units, the project breaks down as follows:
The aim of the project, which consists of 5 residential buildings including social housing units and a hall of residence, is to achieve social and age diversity, as well as to revitalise the neighbourhood.
In order to meet the needs of all types of diversity, the apartments range from 1 to 5 rooms excluding bathrooms and kitchens, each with its own spacious balcony. They exude an atypical charm and the feeling of living in a “one-of-a-kind” setting.
